Altea is just a gem of an old town perched on the hilltop and provides the back drop for one of the most emblematic views of the region – the blue domed roof of the Altea church. Popular for picturesque white houses and small, cobbled streets, Altea is rated as one of the 5 prettiest towns in all of Spain. There is a thriving arts, crafts and design culture here, which can be witnessed by the abundance of shops, studios and galleries. In the heart of the old town there is a beautiful square surrounding the Virgen de Consuelo Church, with its striking blue dome.
Just downhill from the old town you will find approx 5 km of beach and shoreline, divided into several attractive pebble beaches. Here you have a long boulevard and promenade connecting a nautical club, beaches and harbour. You will also find more-upmarket boutiques and restaurants which are abundant in this town! Altea has a mild micro climate, courtesy of being shielded by the mountain ranges of the Sierra Helada to the South and the Sierra Bernia to the North.
