Benissa covers a large area in the Marina Alta and has an old town, which is inland and a costal strip of some 4kms running between Calpe and Moraira. The stunning coastline has numerous coves and beaches to explore. Benissa is very central to the Marina Alta, so you are between the mountains and the coast and most towns or attractions are within a 20 – 40 mins drive!
The old town, dating back to the middle ages, has a beautiful central square with fountains and is situated around the largest church, of the Pure Mother Mary, in the Marina Alta, which is affectionately known locally as the cathedral.
Benissa hosts an incredible market every Saturday and is famous for its festivals celebrating the patron saint. Then, annually in January you get a large medieval fair, which is a sight to behold!The Moors and Christians festival is at the end of June, which includes parades and battle re-enactments. Starting on the last Sunday in April, the town hosts a Procession, for the Coronation of the Fiesta´s Queen together with other events including bull fighting, music concerts, and an incredible fireworks display!
