Javea or Xabia in the Valencian dialect is the east most point of Spain and gets even more days of sunshine than the rest of the Costa Blanca – 320 days! This made The World Health Organisation designate the climate as near perfect! There are 3 main sections of Javea, The Arenal, The Port and the Old Town or Xabia Pueblo. If you are a golfer, Javea Golf Club boasts a full 18-hole course, which is rare in the Marina Alta.
The old town has ancient sandstone buildings and has a landmark Gothic age, fortified church – San Bartolome. Five minutes' walk from here is a large indoor Municiple Market within a stone hall with a high vaulted ceiling. Open Mon – Sat, it’s a great place to shop or enjoy tapas or coffee. There is also a weekly outdoor market to enjoy on Thursdays, specialising in local produce.
The Arenal has a vast sandy beach with a promenade lined with bars, shops and restaurants. This is a bustling and fun environment. Popular with families in the day time and a busy night life commences after 8pm.
The port area is more cosmopolitan and has a harbour offering boat trips and private moorings at the marina. Also, you will find a large fish market where fishing boats arrive with fresh fish daily, bar Sunday. The local area is a busy and pleasant mix of Spanish locals and tourists. Naturally, the seafood restaurants are numerous!
Montgo Mountain and nature park is just to the North of Javea. It is said by some that once you see the Montgo you will fall in love with the area and never leave. Can you be tempted?
Javea is a relatively big town, but has a friendly vibe and really offers something for everyone.
