Villajoyosa, or La Vila Joiosa in Valencian dialect which means “the joyful town”, is a coastal town about 20 mins South of Benidorm by car. Of the 3 main beaches, the large central beach has beautiful white sand and is lined with a promenade with many restaurants and bars, most of them specialised on rice and seafood.
You will also find attractive multi-coloured townhouses, which were easy for returning sailors to spot from the sea. The port is very active and fresh fish can be bought daily.
The town is also famous for its chocolate factories and the Valor chocolate museum, where they have been producing chocolate for over 120 years! The town's festival of Moros y Christians, celebrated at the end of July, commemorates a boat landing by Berber pirates and has re-enactment and fireworks and street parties.
